Rechargeable batteries are extremely important - especially for filmmakers - as they provide power for all mobile devices such as cameras, smartphones, notebooks, audio recorders, video radios, lights and much more. Audio specialist (and also manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries) Shure has now published its own battery guide in the form of a 9-page PDF, which provides interesting information on the subject of Li-ion batteries.
Among other things, terms such as nominal capacity, battery health, remaining capacity and maximum runtime are explained, as well as the influence of the number of charge cycles, the state of charge and the temperature during storage on the lifetime of a Li-ion battery. It also compares the cost of Li-ion batteries with disposable batteries and shows how to calculate the maximum runtime of a battery.
Of particular interest for (filmmakers) practice are of course the tips based on this knowledge, what you can do as a user to extend the longevity of Li-ion batteries.
