This summer, Sigma will launch a new zoom lens for mirrorless APS-C cameras. The 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art modernizes the 18-35mm F1.8 zoom lens available since 2012. The new generation offers the same consistently high speed with a slightly extended focal length range, but is somewhat more compact and, above all, lighter: it weighs 535 grams (instead of 810 g). The mount options are also up-to-date and serve common camera systems, including Canon RF. ![]() This gives Super35 filmmakers an interesting option. However, it should be noted that the lens gives a somewhat more "telephoto" impression due to the crop factor of approximately 1.5x. The angle of view is 79.7-39.1°.
![]() The internal construction with 17 elements in 11 groups, including 4 SLD and 4 aspherical elements, is designed to provide improved optical performance. Focus breathing should be minimal, and thanks to the internal zoom mechanism, the overall length of the lens remains constant even when the focal length is changed. The autofocus should work quickly and precisely thanks to the HLA motor (High-Response Linear Actuator). The minimum focusing distance is 28 cm. The aperture consists of 11 rounded blades. Due to the slightly smaller dimensions - diameter 72.9 mm with a length of 115.9 mm - the supported filter size is also somewhat smaller compared to the predecessor: 67 mm filters are supported. The Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art is scheduled to be available from July 10 for L-Mount, Sony E-Mount and FUJIFILM X, while the Canon RF version is scheduled to follow somewhat later in August (Nikon Z is not supported). Sigma has not yet announced a price. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art für APS-C vorgestellt u.a. mit RF-Mount |
