Sigma has introduced the new 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports, the world&s first 10x ultra-telephoto zoom lens for Sony E-mount as well as Leica L-mount mirrorless full-frame cameras. It was designed as a lens for travel, outdoor sports, wildlife and safari photographers that covers every range from standard to ultra-telephoto, as well as close-ups, without requiring the user to change lenses. For example, its minimum closest focusing distance is 45 centimeters in the wide-angle range, and at 200 mm focal length, the lens offers a maximum magnification of 1:2.4, so it can also be used as a telephoto macro lens.
Weighing 2.5 kg, the 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports lens offers high optical performance throughout the zoom range (even at 10x zoom), according to Sigma, and features optical image stabilization of six stops at telephoto and seven stops at wide-angle. Sigma offers two different stabilization modes for different shooting situations; mode 1 is suitable for general shooting, while mode 2 is best for fast panning, such as in motorsports and other dynamic situations. In the second mode, an accelerometer combined with Sigma&s Intelligent OS algorithm developed specifically for panning enables effective image stabilization that works even when the camera is moved vertically or diagonally.
Sigma&s newly developed "HLA (High-response Linear Actuator)" linear motor is also said to provide fast and precise autofocusing and also enable high-speed focus tracking. The 60-600mm f/4.5-5.6 also features a focus limiter switch to limit the autofocus travel range, three AFL buttons that can be assigned special functions from the camera.
Just like the other lenses in Sigma&s Sports lineup, the new addition is equipped with Sigma&s Dual Action Zoom, which allows users to use both the rotating zoom by rotating the zoom ring and the straight zoom by gripping the lens tip. The lens is largely dust- and splash-proof, and the front lens has a water- and oil-repellent coating.
The Sigma 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG DN OS Sports consists of 27 elements arranged in 19 groups, and includes two FLD and three SLD elements. The lens& aperture range is from f/4.5 to f/22 at wide-angle and from f/5.6 to f/32 at telephoto via a nine-blade aperture. It has a minimum distance of 45.2cm in wide-angle and 260cm in telephoto, and measures 12 x 27.94cm (diameter x length).
The tripod clamp of the lens has an Arca Swiss compatible magnesium alloy foot. This foot can be removed or swapped with another tripod clamp foot (sold separately) if needed, or attached to a monopod, opening up another variety of different uses.
