SmallHD has launched a number of interesting professional camera monitors in the last few years, but all of them were rather high-priced. Now SmallHD has introduced the new Action 5, a 5" on-camera monitor that is very bright and brings many of the professional features of SmallHD&s PageOS toolset in a stripped down form, but at an affordable price. ;) SmallHD Action 5
The SmallHD Action 5 has FullHD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) and connects to cameras via HDMI. It has a high brightness of 2,000 nits, which makes its display readable outdoors even in daylight. It also offers a contrast ratio of 1000:1, support for Rec. 709 color space, and multiple 1/4"-20 mount points on the bottom, back, and right side for attaching to the camera or other accessories. The Action 5 weighs just 241 grams and features both HDMI 2.0 input and output, as well as a combined battery plate that supports both Sony L-Series and Canon LP-E6 batteries. The Action 5 uses a special, simplified version of SmallHD&s PageOS 4 software toolset called ActionOS, which SmallHD claims can be mastered in 60 seconds or less. This provides filmmakers with four key tools via one-touch functionality, namely Focus Assist, the Expose tool, the Look tool and the Frame tool. The ActionOS toolset is operated using the touchscreen and is designed to quickly select, set and switch between the most important tools.
