With the MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus System, accessory specialist SmallRig presents a wireless follow focus system for the first time - consisting of a wireless handwheel controller, handle and motor unit (wireless receiver motor). In the maximum configuration, the control of focus, iris and camera REC start/stop are possible (the latter depending on the supported camera). We already had the opportunity for a first hands-on (more about this soon on slashCAM).
SmallRig MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus Basic Kit--- SmallRig MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus Handgrip Kit--- SmallRig MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus Two Motor Kit--- SmallRig specifies a range of 100m for the 2.4 GHz based wireless system - control data is transmitted encrypted. There are a total of 14 channels to choose from on the Handwheel Controller, which are selected manually and also set accordingly on the motor. In total, Wireless Handwheel Controller and Wireless Handgrip can control up to 48 motors. SmallRig states the latency to be less than 50ms. SmallRig specifies the capacity of the integrated battery of the Handwheel Controller as 1400mAh = 20 hours, that of the Handgrip (with replaceable LP-E6 battery) as 40 hours. The torque of the focus motor is 0.5Nm. The latter can be operated via USB-C as well as with an included battery adapter plate (wireless) with NP-F batteries. The compact Wireless Handwheel Controller can be operated either standalone or via the included Nato mount directly on the camera rig/cage/gimbal or as an extended remote unit with the Wireless Handgrip. As a rigging and accessories specialist, SmallRig has considered a whole range of mounting options here: In addition to those already mentioned, the MagicFIZ system can also be used with the Wireless Handgrip for shoulder rigs, and there are also corresponding mounting options for setting up a complete Wireless Control Hand Unit including wireless monitoring. Here are the technical key data of the individual components of the new SmallRigg MagicFIZ Wireless Follow Focus System: Wireless Handheel Controller 1) Large handwheel for fine focus adjustment 2) Controls the wireless receiver motors (focus, iris or zoom control) 3) 0.96-inch OLED screen shows battery status, REC prompt, channel, motor number, communication status, A-mark/B-mark status, motor position (also shows status of follow focus handle when attached) 4) Can be attached directly to the follow focus handle, allowing one person to control two functions simultaneously. 5) Has a built-in 1400mAh lithium battery for up to 20 hours of operation. 6) USB-C interface can use PD/QC fast charging systems. 7) Compatible with power supplies from 5.0-16.8V. 8) Customized circuit provides automatic overvoltage protection. 9) Optional D-tap to USB-C and DC to USB-C cables can be used to power the wireless receiver motor. Wireless Handgrip 1) Focusing wheel with finger control 2) Controls the wireless receiver motors when connected to the electronic control module (focus, iris or zoom control) 3) The 0.96-inch OLED screen of the electronic control module displays the power-on status, channel, motor number, communication status, A-mark/B-mark status, and motor position. 4) Can be connected with Wireless Handwheel Controller so that one person can control two operations at the same time. 5) Powered by replaceable LP-E6 lithium-ion battery for up to 40 hours operation (1950mAh). 6) USB-C interface can use PD/QC fast charging systems. 7) Compatible with power supplies from 5.0-16.8V. 8) Customized circuit provides automatic overvoltage protection. 9) Works as reverse power supply for powering Wireless Handwheel Controller or Wireless Receiver Motor. Wireless Receiver Motor 1) Provides high torque of 0.5 Nm to drive manual cine lenses smoothly. 2) The 0.52" OLED display shows channel, motor position, input voltage and motor number. 3) Accepts external power from V-mount batteries via USB-C interface. 4) Can use NP-F series batteries via quick-change battery plate (up to 3.5 hours of operation with an NP-F550 battery). 5) Can also be powered via SmallRig Wireless Handwheel Controller or Wireless Handgrip.
