Sonnet Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock for up to two NVMe SSDs with up to 16 TB

[08:48 Tue,22.March 2022   by Thomas Richter]

Sonnet Technology has introduced the Echo Dock, a new Thunderbolt docking station, which in addition to multiple Thunderbolt / and interface quasi as a transportable Thunderbolt SSD also provides additional fast fixed storage space for a computer - and is thus ideal, for example, for mobile editing via notebook, which always requires a lot of memory.

For example, in addition to two Thunderbolt ports (one Thunderbolt port is used to connect to the computer, the other can be used to connect up to 5 additional Thunderbolt devices via series connection ), the new Sonnet Echo dock has two USB 3.2 Gen 2 interfaces each with USB-C and Type-A connectors (with a maximum speed of 10 GB/s), all of which can also be used to charge connected devices.

Since many notebooks now only come with a few interfaces, such supplementary ports are often a practical addition. The dock can also be used to connect an external monitor with a resolution of up to 5K, such as the Apple Pro Display XDR, via Thunderbolt or USB-C. The dock gets its power via its own 96W power supply.

In addition, the dock offers two internal M.2 NVMe SSD slots, which can be populated by the user with up to two 8TB NVMe SSDs for a total capacity of 16TB ( here for an overview of compatible NVMe SSDs, including those from Samsung, WD, Crucial and Micron). Depending on the SSDs used, a transfer rate of up to 1,500 MB/s or 3,000 MB/s (in RAID 0 mode) is achieved.

The Sonnet Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock is compatible with all Thunderbolt 4 computers; all M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max Macs; all Thunderbolt 3 Mac and Windows PCs; and iPad Pro tablets with Thunderbolt ports.

The Echo Dual NVMe Thunderbolt Dock (part number ECHO-DK2M2-TB) is available now from Sonnet and soon from channel partners worldwide for a suggested retail price of .99.

Interestingly, the following clip from Sonnet explains why its docks support Thunderbolt 4 but use Thunderbolt 3 for better performance due to better PCIe connectivity:
