The Sony Alpha 7S III has been on the market for almost five years - somewhat surprisingly, the camera, which is popular among filmmakers, is now receiving an interesting firmware update. This includes a new Log recording mode that, in addition to S-Log3 and REC709/800%, also allows the use of custom LUTs. Up to 16 LUTs can be registered and selected, either only for the preview or permanently ("bake-in"; adjustable via "Embed LUT file" on/off).

In the course of introducing the new Log recording mode, the gamma setting S-Log2 has been removed. After the update, only the gamma setting S-Log3 can be used.
In addition, the following new features are included in the Sony Alpha 7S III Update v4.00:
- Clips can be marked with OK/NG/KEEP marks during or after film recording.
- During film recording or playback, shot marks can be added to mark the film for selection, transfer or editing. After recording, photos can be automatically created from film images with shot marks.
- The focus magnifier and the automatic magnifier in MF can be used when using the brightness control function.
- The Golden Ratio Grid option has been added to the Grid Line Type setting menu.
- Support for focus bracketing has been added, enabling continuous shooting with automatic focus position change.
- Additional settings have been added for adjusting the exposure value and the number of shots in exposure bracketing.
- The Custom Key setting can be used on the AEL button and the Delete button during playback.
- The Write Digital Signature function for photos is supported as part of Sony's Camera Authenticity Solution. A paid license is required for use.
New FTP transfer and network functions:
- Support for the network streaming function
- Scheduling of FTP transfers when writing data to the camera's storage media
- Continue recording while transferring recorded photos and videos to a smartphone or tablet
- Transfer to smartphones and tablets can now also be continued if it is interrupted during a transfer.
- Only files that have not yet been transferred to a smartphone or tablet can be transferred, or videos can be added to be transferred.
Sony points out that updates should be installed in chronological order. If the update is started from version 2.11 or earlier, an update to version 3.01 must first be carried out, followed by an update to version 4.00.
