The new 24MP full frame system camera Alpha 9 II is official, but brings few innovations for filmmakers: the video functions remain as in the predecessor model (4K with 8 bit). New features are mainly found in connectivity, for example the A9 II has an integrated 1000BASE-T Ethernet terminal for fast and stable Gigabit data transfer -- a smartphone is not needed to play media on a server. File transfer with SSL or TLS encryption (FTPS) is also supported to increase data security.
Overall, Sony is targeting a professional environment such as sports photography and photojournalism with this camera, including an improved continuous shooting function with mechanical shutter and the ability to add voice memos to photo files to speed up editorial processing. In addition, the case has been slightly optimized in terms of durability (seals) and usability (key haptics). The autofocus functions include a real-time eye AF for videos and otherwise largely correspond to the
firmware update of the first A9 of April. A digital audio interface has been added to the camera's multi-interface accessory shoe (MI accessory shoe).
The Sony Alpha 9 II (ILCE-9M2) with E-Mount will be available in October for 5.399 Euro.
