With a Cinema Line PTZ, Sony wants to blur the line between remote/live cameras and scenic cameras - the newly introduced FR7 with full-frame sensor and E-mount basically looks like a smaller relative of the FX3 in a robo-rig. ![]() Sony FR7 Cinema Line PTZ. It&s supposed to offer the best of both worlds, namely a cinematic look paired with full connectivity, multicam support, and of course full pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) functionality. The inner workings seem to be largely carried over from the FX3, as built in is an Exmor R BSI full-frame sensor with about 10.3MP effective resolution and, according to Sony, a 15+ stop dynamic range as well as the BIONZ XR image processor. Supported are frame rates up to 4K 120p, the Cine EI mode, S-Cinetone as well as a real-time eye AF including tracking.
Since the built-in pan/tilt functionality is addressed remotely, the camera can be mounted on a tripod on stage or on the ceiling, for example, and no longer needs to be touched during (live) recording. All recording parameters of the FR7 (pan, tilt, zoom, focus, record, playback, etc.) are operated via a new web app from a tablet or browser. Several people can access the camera preview at the same time, and the app also supports multi-camera monitoring. About 100 presets are available for camera position. The pan and tilt speed can be continuously adjusted between 0.02 degrees per second and 60 degrees per second, allowing a wide range of camera movements. The pan range is from -170° to +170° and the tilt range is from -30° to +195°. The FR7 records XAVC internally (on board is a dual card slot for CFexpress Type A and SDXC), and a 16-bit RAW signal is output via 12G-SDI. Other connections include HDMI Type A, an XLR connector (type 5-pin) for connecting an external microphone, plus AUDIO CH-1 and CH-2 (single connector). The Ethernet port supports various streaming protocols including RTSP, SRT and NDI | HX. Also the power supply can be organized externally via PoE++ (Power over Ethernet Plus). Of course, Timecode IN as well as Genlock are available for multicam environments, tally lights signal the recording status. The Sony FR7 will be exhibited at the IBC, which will start soon in Amsterdam. There are no details about price and availability yet. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Sony FR7 - erste Cinema Line PTZ-Kamera mit Vollformatsensor und Wechselmount |
