The Sony FX3 gets a firmware update that brings the camera even closer to its siblings in the Cine series. New features in version 2.0 include Cine EI, Cine EI Quick and Flexible ISO modes for shooting with S-Log3 (EI = Exposure Index). Flexible ISO is a simple mode where the ISO value can be changed to make exposure adjustments, while Cine EI and Cine EI Quick use basic camera ISO values 800/12800). This creates shots that can be adjusted in post-processing to balance highlights and shadows and take advantage of S-Log3&s wide latitude. This allows the FX3 to fit into existing FX6/FX9 post-production workflows. ;) Sony FX3
User LUTs can now be loaded for LUT preview (up to 16 different ones), and the S709 Monitor LUT is also included as a preset, which was developed in parallel with the Venice and is already available in the FX9 and FX6. Per PP LUT function, imported LUTs can also be applied directly to the recording; thus, a later adjustment in post-production is no longer possible. S-Log2 is no longer available in firmware 2.0. Other new features are the AF Assist function from FX6 as well as Shot Marks / Essence Marks, an option to directly mark in-camera relevent points in a shot (already included in the Alpha 7 IV). Via Timecode Sync the FX3 can now be synchronized with a second camera using the VMC-BNCM1 adapter (TC in only). Some optimizations have been made to the menu navigation. Both EI and Essence Marks are stored as metadata, as is already done with the gyro and lens data. To simplify preprocessing using Sony&s Catalyst Prepare, a plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro is to be released (probably in August), which will support the Exposure Index adjustment as well as the markers in the free version. To also perform stabilization via gyro data as well as lensbreathing compensation, a paid subscription version will be required for /year. Firmware 2.0 for the FX3 should be available for download immediately.
