Sony yesterday announced the ILX-LR1, an interchangeable lens camera designed for industrial use with an approximate 61 megapixel 35mm full-frame image sensor. However, due to its lightweight and very compact form, it should also be well suited for drone use. It measures just 100.0 x 74.0 x 42.5 millimeters while weighing an astonishing 243 grams (without accessories).
Internal recording is done on an SD card in 4K XAVC S with 3840 x 2160 pixels (at 4:2:0, 8 bit with 50/60p and 150 Mbit/s). Sony's typical picture profiles including S-Log3/S-Cinetone are said to be available.

The box-shaped camera has M3 screw holes (M3) for mounting accessories.
It also has a mounting screw hole (1/4-20 UNC) on the bottom. USB Type-C and HDMI Micro (Type D) are also located together on the back of the camera for easy installation.
The ILX-LR1 supports a DC power supply of 10-18 V and can be powered from the drone's battery to extend operating time without the need to change batteries. Low-latency data communication for remote applications is said to be possible via the ILX-LR1 Power & Control Terminal. A lock switch can also prevent unintentional operation errors caused by the buttons on the rear panel.

With the Sony Camera Remote SDK, also freshly expanded, remote users should be able to access and control camera menus and other functions with their own software applications. By integrating an API into the system, it becomes possible to remotely control the camera from the user's system, allowing changes to camera settings, shutter release, live view monitoring and more.
With the new version 1.11, when using manual focus, it is possible to retrieve the current focus position and make focus adjustments to the desired position, enabling highly reproducible and stable shooting.
The ILX-LR1 is expected to be available starting this month for approximately 3,000 US-Dollar.
