Together with the FX30, Sony has also announced the expansion of its Tough CFexpress Type A memory card series. In addition to the existing 80GB and 160GB versions, they will also be available with even higher storage capacity of 320GB (CEA-G320T) and 640GB (CEA-G640T14).
These high-capacity cards support high-speed performance with a maximum write speed of up to 700 MB/s and VPG (Video Performance Guarantee) 400 for write speeds of up to 400 MB/s for continuous shooting and 4K 120p video recording at high data rates.
In line with the TOUGH specification, these cards are also water and dust resistant (IP57 certified) and rugged enough for stable long-term shooting in a wide range of environments.
The Sony CEA-G320T CFexpress Type A memory card will cost 709 euros, while the CEA-G640T model will cost 1,349.00 euros - both available in October 2022.
CFexpress 2.0 Type A
The CFexpress 2.0 Type A memory cards are a slightly smaller and slower version of the widely used CFexpress Type B memory card. While Type B CFexpress cards are capable of speeds up to 2,000 MB/s (16,000 Mbps), Type A cards reach a maximum of 1,000 MB/s (8,000 Mbps), according to specifications. The even larger Type C CFexpress cards can be as fast as 4,000 MB/s (32,000 Mbps), but to our knowledge are still not on the market.
In newer Sony Alpha cameras and also the FX3 / FX30, both SD cards and CFexpress 2.0 Type A memory cards can be used.
