With version 4.0, the full-frame Sony FX6 gets an anamorphic function that has been desired by many users for a long time. Sony now provides a desqueeze function for both 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphics - for the viewfinder as well as for the HDMI-out.
The FX6 firmware version 4.0 also offers autofocus support in S&Q mode. Autofocus is available in S&Q (Slow & Quick) mode from 7 fps.
In addition, the FX6 version 4.0 firmware update also supports the Cine EI Quick function, providing the same production workflow as the Cinema Line cameras, including the FX30 and FX3. File names are now the same as on the FX9, Venice and Venice 2 to ensure a simpler workflow - especially in multi-camera setups.
Venice 2 Version 2.1
Venice 2 version 2.1 improves the zoom function when the picture is in aspect ratio 3:2. The current zoom function cuts off the 17:9 viewing angle side, resulting in a narrower angle than expected. Version 2.1 now crops 16:9 from the entire 3:2 full screen area. It also adds zoom to 2:39:1 for 3:2 imager modes.
Venice 2 Version 3.0
In addition to VENICE 2 version 2.1, Sony announces the VENICE 2 version 3.0 firmware update to be available in early 2024. Version 3.0 includes a new frame line generator, enhanced high frame rate anamorphic modes and improved live event features.
Version 3.0 will now also support a new external frame line generator tool. Sony&s new Frameline Generator will enable import/export functionality for frameline creation. In addition, version 3.0 improves high frame rate modes, allowing filmmakers to shoot 90 frames per second with 2x anamorphic lenses, while a new variable frame rate of 33.333 FPS has been added for anti-flicker at 50 Hz.
Version 3.0 also includes features to improve the colour fidelity of in-camera VFX when mixing standard production lighting and LED lights/volumes.
In addition, version 3.0 offers new features that further enhance the use of VENICE 2 in the growing live multicam market. Version 3.0 improves the Paint menu and RM/RCP controls for live content production, including additional adjustments for saturation, skin detail, white balance and shutter - even with RCP/RM Paint controls disabled. Version 3.0 now also allows the selection of 3D LUTs when RCP/RM Paint control is enabled.
The new updates for FX6 version 4.0 and Venice 2 version 2.1 will be available in summer 2023, while VENICE 2 version 3.0 should be available in early 2024.
Sony has not yet communicated whether these are all free updates - we will keep you posted on this as soon as we know more ...
