In addition to the innovative Alpha 9 III global shutter DSLM, Sony has also unveiled a new full-frame fixed focal length lens, the G-Master Prime, which is also primarily aimed at professional users: At just 1470 grams (without tripod mount), the new G Master FE 300 mm F2.8 GM OSS represents the lightest lens of its kind, according to Sony. ;)
Such lightweight constructions fit in well with Sony&s flagship DSLMs such as the Alpha 1 or the new Alpha 9 III, as these are also quite lightweight in contrast to the competition due to Sony&s decision to dispense with an integrated battery grip. Accordingly, Sony points out that the new G Master FE 300 mm F2.8 GM OSS has a particularly successful weight distribution for hand-held shots, which should benefit sports and wildlife photographers in particular. ;) In addition to optical image stabilisation, weather protection and two XD linear motors, the Sony G Master FE 300 mm F2.8 GM OSS also has a function ring that can be used to directly control Power Focus and APS-C/full format switching. Power Focus: The standard setting. Turning the ring initiates focussing at a constant speed in the specified direction. APS-C/full format: If the ring rotation is assigned to the corresponding function in the housing menu, turning the ring immediately selects APS-C or full format. ;) The optical construction of the G Master FE 300 mm F2.8 GM OSS is divided into 17 groups with 21 elements. The aperture consists of 11 blades, the minimum focussing distance is 2m and Sony specifies the filter diameter as a slim 40.5mm.
