Several sources on the web are currently reporting that at the Photo & Imaging Show in Shanghai, at a Panasonic press conference, an intensified cooperation between DJI and Panasonic in the LiDAR field was announced. Rumours to this effect have actually been circulating for quite some time. ;)
We ourselves had successfully tested the  DJI LiDAR system here on slashCAM with the Panasonic S1H on manual Zeiss Cine Primes. Should DJI and Panasonic now aim for an even deeper LiDAR integration, this could enable interesting new functions for both manual and AF lenses on Panasonic cameras. With Panasonic&s meanwhile very good hybrid phase autofocus - see our detailed review here, LiDAR support could be envisaged in extreme low-light situations where normal AF reaches its limits. ;) A combined system of in-camera pattern/motif recognition and LiDAR measuring points (key point 3D Point Cloud) could also enable a previously unknown tracking accuracy and reliability. It should also be helpful here that DJI joined the L-Mount Alliance almost exactly a year ago - see here our news on this. And finally, a more integrated LiDAR system also offers exciting possibilities in the scenario we tested with manual (cine) lenses - especially when tracking fast-moving subjects or more complex camera/actor blocking. In any case, we are very curious to see what can come out of a collaboration between DJI and Panasonic on the future topic of LiDAR.
