DJI has finally officially announced the launch date for its new Neo selfie drone - it will be on September 5th at 15:00. However, thanks to leakers like ![]() DJI Neo
The DJI Neo, which weighs only 135 grams and measures approximately 13 x 16 x 5 cm, is launched from the palm of your hand and lands there again - the integrated rotor protection is designed to make injuries impossible. The desired selfie shots can then be easily taken by voice command or by pressing a button on the Neo itself - completely without a remote control. The Neo records UltraHD 4K video with RockSteady stabilization at 75 Mbps in MP4 format - AI can automatically track the user for selfie shots, and the Neo also features DJI&s QuickShot and Easy ACRO functions. ![]() With the help of the free tool ![]() As an alternative to voice command control, the DJI Neo can also be flown immersively from a first-person perspective as an FPV drone using the Goggles (in manual mode) and the Motion Controller, as well as, of course, with a controller and - without any controller - just via Bluetooth using the app on a smartphone/tablet. Via app and Wi-Fi, the maximum transmission distance is around 50 meters; with the RC-N3 remote controller (the RC-N2 is also said to work), 1080p/30fps video can be live-streamed up to a distance of 10 km. ![]() Neo with removable rotor guard DisadvantagesThe low weight of 135 grams has, in addition to the advantage of being in drone class C0 - meaning it can be flown without a special drone license and drone registration and is also subject to less stringent usage restrictions - also a downside: the flight time is only a maximum of 18 minutes - if the removable rotor guard is mounted, the flight time is even only 17 minutes. This is little compared to the 46 minutes of the latest Mavic 3 or the 34 minutes of the Mini 4 Pro, but it emphasizes the unique character of the Neo as a drone specifically for short selfie videos.![]() DJI Neo taking off from the hand The image sensor is also significantly smaller than in other models, at 1/2" (for example, the Mini 4 Pro uses a 1/1.3" sensor), and features a 13mm f/2.8 wide-angle lens with a 117.6° field of view. The maximum flight altitude is 2000 meters, and the maximum wind speed at which the Neo can still be flown is 8 m/s (Force 4). ![]() DJI Neo with integrated control buttons There are already pictures of a crashed Neo - Jasper Ellens speculates that these won&t be the last of this kind, as the Neo lacks obstacle sensors and could quickly crash into obstacles when autonomously circling the user in selfie mode. ![]() DJI Neo Fly More Combo According to Jasper Ellens, the Neo is slightly quieter at 78 dB than the Avata at 82 dB, but its frequency is higher and - at least to our perception - significantly more unpleasant:
