Version 1.6 of the "Story & Film" app (iOS) for filmmakers has just been released. The app is a versatile tool that accompanies the creation process of a film from the idea to completion. In it, basic storytelling can be combined with the planning of scenes and shots, gradually adding the shot footage to finally obtain a shotlist as a preliminary structure for editing.
With the help of the "Story & Film" app, a film idea can thus be worked out and given structure, highlights can be planned, checklists can be created, an initial storyboard can be created, and dialog texts can be worked out. The story is divided into Storyparts, Scenes and Shots according to the usual scheme to keep an eye on the narrative structure and the connections.
Story & Film can be
- give structure and narrative-driven (narrative) action to a story in an extended storyboard feel, - create a plan for filming on location and editing afterwards, no matter how long the film becomes - build on existing story structures via templates, - easily add story parts, scenes, and shots via DRAG & DROP, and expand a story from a factory preset list or from presets and presets you create yourself, - use DIALOGMANAGER and DIALOG-MAKER to prepare your own voiceovers and dialogs and assign them to Scenes, - inform about further setting options at the shooting location, - put the previous footage into a story and put events/situations/images in the right place, - create a tabular shotlist and share it as a CSV or PDF file, - export a shotlist as a marker for Adobe Premiere and for BMD Davinci Resolve, - use the app as a checklist for the next shoot, - check the "liveliness" of a story, using predefined and editable TENSION CURVES. - Capture shots as they are shot with frame/number/scene and access the correct clip when editing.
New features in version 1.6
. - Language setting has been improved and should now automatically be set to German or English (if not German) based on device language and region - The view/setting "NEW via iPhone clips" has been improved and minor bugs have been fixed - STORY & FILM can now play clips from the Gallery whose preview image (frame grabbing) has been loaded previously - View of the timeline (shots) has been adjusted more generously - Other minor bugs have been fixed
Versions and price
The German-language Story & Film app has evolved from a personal hobby project to a comprehensive tool and is free to try in the basic version, but limited to 12 scenes and 16 shots. The Pro version is fortunately not a subscription, but costs a one-time fee of 3.49 euros. The app is under constant development and the creator is grateful for feedback to improve Story & Film's features. One nice point: the app does not use internal user analysis, which means that no data is passed on to external services.
