Boris FX has updated its 3D tracking software, SynthEyes. New features include Mask ML - ML as in Machine Learning - a tool that already works in the background of Mocha and greatly simplifies masking tasks.
SynthEyes Mask ML
To mask static or moving objects in a scene, they only need to be roughly marked, for example by clicking; the AI-based tool then recognizes and tracks these objects with an edge-accurate mask. Different mask layers can be created for more complex compositing and precisely controlled using keyframes. A batch processing tool enables simultaneous editing of multiple shots by automatically generating masks and tracks in the background and solving shots.
Also new in SynthEyes 2025 is a central export hub that allows you to access and manage all export settings from a single interface. Multi-Export supports various formats, including Blender, After Effects, Nuke, and Assimilate 360VR Stabilization. It also offers flexible customization with custom settings that can be saved as presets, seamlessly integrates with SynthEyes' dynamic tag system, and automates variations without having to reconfigure exports from scratch.
A new workflow preset manager is designed to support multi-export functionality and provide a structured, reliable preset framework for any pipeline scenario by enabling precise control over setups. Nesting, tagging, and template functions help standardize settings across teams.
SynthEyes 2025 includes a pre-built, animatable head mesh designed to simplify and speed up head tracking in close-ups, especially when head scans of actors are not available. It can be used as a basis for detailed facial alignments, digital makeup, and beauty work. Users can quickly load the ready-to-use assets directly from the SynthEyes library.
Integrated Head-Mesh
There is also a new project tag manager that makes file organization more efficient thanks to dynamic tagging. It automatically generates consistent folder paths for scenes, exports, and assets, and ensures that each new scene follows custom specifications. This is intended to eliminate repetitive manual input and standardize the storage of assets in different pipelines.
For virtual production workflows, a new, dedicated exporter for Assimilate Scratch and Live FX is included, which is designed to simplify the stabilization of plates in multi-camera and 360° shoots.
SynthEyes 2025 is available both as a subscription (monthly and annual) and as a perpetual license. The latter costs , which to our knowledge has become somewhat more expensive - when BorisFX took over the software two years ago, it cost around .
