Tamron describes the new 20-40mm F/2.8 Di III VXD zoom lens as a universal lens for mirrorless full-frame cameras with Sony E-mount. It offers a constant open aperture of F/2.8 over the entire zoom range and is particularly compact and lightweight with a length of 86.5 mm and a weight of 365g - according to the manufacturer, it is currently the smallest and lightest lens in its class.

The lens is equipped with Tamron's VXD linear motor autofocus (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), which is said to offer particularly quiet and agile focusing. Advanced camera features such as Fast Hybrid AF and Eye Detection AF are also supported. The zoom ring rotation angle is 65°, and the minimum focusing distance is 0.17m. The maximum magnification is 1:3.8 in the wide-angle range.
The filter thread measures Ø 67 mm. The lens is splash-proof and has a fluorine coating. The surface of the housing is also said to be scratch-resistant. The market launch is planned for fall 2022, but Tamron has not yet announced a price.
