Tamron launches another zoom lens for mirrorless full format cameras with Sony E-Mount. The travel zoom 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD offers an initial speed of F/2.8, the largest possible aperture is then F/3.5 at 50mm focal length, F/5 at 100mm and F/5.6 from 150mm to 200mm. The aperture consists of 7 blades.
The autofocus with its RXD stepping motor (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) should work quietly, but as it seems, not silently (during video recording "practically no disturbing focusing noises are recorded"). The closest focusing distance is 19cm at the maximum wide angle, and 0.80m at 200mm telephoto. There is an eye recognition AF.
With a length of only 117mm and a weight of 575g the lens is very portable. The diameter of the housing measures 74mm, the filter size 67m. The optical design of the new travel zoom lens consists of 18 elements in 14 groups, including several special lenses such as GM (Glass Molded Aspherical), XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) elements and hybrid aspheres, which are designed to minimize optical aberrations and enable high resolution. The lens surfaces are coated with Tamron&s BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating. The bayonet ring and other critical areas of the lens body are sealed against moisture and splash water.
The Tamron 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (model A071) for Sony E-Mount is expected to be available from June 25, 2020 at an unspecified price.
