Tamron has introduced the new 16-30mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, which will be released for full-frame mirrorless cameras with Sony E-Mount or Nikon Z-Mount. It completes Tamron's "G2 zoom trilogy": Together with the 28-75mm F/2.8 G2 standard zoom and the 70-180mm F/2.8 G2 telephoto zoom, a focal length range from 16 to 180mm is now covered (uniform filter size of 67mm).

"G2" indicates that these are updated lenses. In this specific case, the predecessor TAMRON 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD has been further developed into the new generation 16-30mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2.
The zoom range has been slightly expanded, yet the lens remains compact and lightweight: It weighs 440g (450g in the Z version) and is said to offer an even greater imaging performance. According to the manufacturer, the autofocus performance has been significantly improved; the quiet high-speed autofocus (VXD: Voice-Coil eXtreme-Torque Drive) is designed to work precisely even with moving subjects. The minimum focusing distance is 0.19m (wide-angle) or 0.3m (telephoto).
The exterior housing surface has been improved; the zoom and focus rings are said to offer optimized grip and a smoother feel. In addition, the lens is compatible with the TAMRON Lens Utility software, which allows functions for photo and video shooting to be customized. Thanks to weather-resistant lens construction and fluorine coating, the lens should be equipped for use on travels or in everyday life.
The Tamron 16-30mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 will cost 959 euros and will be available from July 31, 2025 (Sony E) or August 22, 2025 (Nikon Z).
