Tascam&s new compact audio recorder FR-AV2 is specifically aimed at filmmakers, as it combines built-in timecode generation and synchronization with two professional XLR audio inputs, 32-bit float recording, and preparation for Bluetooth monitoring. This way, audio recording with the FR-AV2 can easily be synchronized with simultaneous video recordings from cameras or other devices without needing an external timecode generator. Tascam FR-AV2 In addition to two XLR inputs, the Tascam FR-AV2 also offers a stereo mini-jack input for wireless and lavalier microphones, as well as a USB-C port, which allows the recorder to be integrated, for example, into an iPhone video setup. External microphones or other audio sources with a professional line level can be connected directly to the FR-AV2&s Ultra-HDDA preamps, which are characterized by a very low equivalent input noise of just -127 dBu, allowing audio signals to be recorded with maximum clarity and virtually no noise. One of the outstanding features of the FR-AV2 is the 32-bit float recording technology with a sampling rate of up to 192 kHz, which avoids distortion and allows for an extended dynamic range even with loud signal sources. The Tascam FR-AV2 uses a dual analog/digital converter and, thanks to its built-in timecode functions, is particularly suitable as a high-quality audio recorder for film shoots – it sends and receives timecode via its mini-jack ports and supports jam sync and the ability to synchronize timecode via Bluetooth (with the optional AK-BT2 adapter) and can also wirelessly synchronize with supported UltraSync-Blue devices from Atomos. The bright 2" display shows the recording settings and is readable even in bright daylight. Recording is done on SDXC cards up to 512 GB in size. During recording, features such as a built-in low-cut filter, compressor, limiter, and noise gate are available for optimization. Tascam FR-AV2 With the optional Bluetooth adapter AK-BT2, the audio can also be monitored wirelessly during recordings. Three quality levels are available to obtain the best possible signal depending on the recording environment. Wired and Bluetooth monitoring work in parallel, so two people can always listen simultaneously. Via USB-C cable, the FR-AV2 can also be used together with iPhones for video and audio recording – this provides professional XLR inputs to the iPhone, and timecode can also be output to synchronize the recording with the smartphone. Via its USB-C port, the FR-AV2 can also be used as a USB audio interface with two inputs and outputs for iOS, Mac, or Windows-based devices. The Tascam FR-AV2 is available now at a price of around 425 euros, while the corresponding Bluetooth adapter AK-BT2 costs around 64 euros.
