Tascam introduces another portable multitrack recorder with 32-bit float technology, a feature newly introduced with the
Portacapture X8. The new Portacapture X6 offers four plus two audio tracks, sample rates up to 96 kHz, and a 2.4-inch color touchscreen (6.1 cm diagonal screen size) with high contrast. It turns out to be a bit more compact again than the X8 and weighs 365 g including batteries.

The recorder is aimed at videographers, podcast/YouTube creators, sound designers and musicians who want to create high-quality audio recordings for smaller content production projects. It features user interface with app-like operation and two built-in microphones that can be operated in both AB and XY configurations. It also offers two XLR inputs for mic and line-level signals (up to +24 dBu) with switchable phantom power (24/48 volts). An aux input, line output, and camera input and output are also provided.
For post-production, the new Tascam recorder features a depth filter and noise gate to reduce background noise and unwanted frequencies, as well as a limiter and compressor to control the signal level. There's also a 4-band equalizer that allows full manual adjustment via an intuitive user interface, as well as presets for various common scenarios. To further eliminate wind noise and plosive sounds, Tascam announces the new WS-86 windscreen designed specifically for Portacapture X6, Portacapture X8, DR-40X and other Tascam portable audio recorders.
As with its big brother X8, an included driverless USB audio interface allows the recorder to be used as a compact mixer with built-in microphones for live streaming via OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) or similar platforms. It also allows direct recording of commentary and dialogue directly into DAW and editing software. The system can stream the overall mix via the USB Type-C port.
The Portacapture X6 can be controlled using the optionally available AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter in conjunction with the Tascam Portacapture Control app on a smartphone or tablet. The app is available for both iOS and Android and can be downloaded for free from the Apple Store or Google Play. Timecode synchronization should also be available via the Bluetooth adapter after a future firmware update.
The Tascam Portacapture X6 is to be available from March for 389 euros.
