Current IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond shared some interesting insights at the Bank of America Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference on how and where AI is already being used productively in IMAX business operations.
The fact that AI has already replaced dead actors or credibly rejuvenated living actors seems to be omitted by Gelfond, as well as the fact that Large Language models are now used worldwide to support almost every major text production - which most authors, however, certainly do not necessarily mention without being asked. ![]() IMAX already uses a lot of AI in post-production. Ultimately, however, what is more exciting anyway is the use of AI in-house, and so he continues: "AI, however, is going to be much more involved in post-production and more involved in image enhancement. We&ve actually been looking at AI for a few years now, and we&re using it to upscale images. (...) We sharpen the edges and we remove the noise and the grain. And have been using AI for this for quite a while. Also, I think we&ll see more significant advances in this area." In addition, IMAX plans to increase its use of AI in marketing and analyzing data. In short, AI seems to be playing a big role in the future of IMAX productions.
