Small contemporary historical reference ion our own: Exactly 20 years ago on 23 March 2000 shortly before midnight the VideoX-Forum was launched. VideoX was the first German-language website on the subject of digital video editing that had been online since October 4, 1997.
What all this has to do with slashCAM? Almost exactly one year later, on 20.3. 2001 VideoX merged with slashCAM. With this step the VideoX-Forum was also integrated into slashCAM, where it provides until today as slashCAM Forum for a broad exchange among various video and film makers.
A view into old times: The VideoX-Forum
In May 2001 we changed we had to change the forum from Parsimony to our own servers, which turned out to be the right decision. A nice background for this is the often quoted Telepolis article "Free services and opportunity costs", which was created as a by-product at that time.
On this foundation the slashCAM forum ran almost unchanged for 15 years before we relaunched it in April 2017 with a big relaunch. However, we attached great importance to the fact that also the old contributions were still accessible.
So here we are now, after 20 years we are allowed to pat ourselves on the shoulder and thanks to Corona in distributed home offices with a virtual champagne toast in the VIdeo conference. 20 years ago, we really would never have dreamed of this.
If you&re bored or wistful, you can still visit see the opening from back then or browse the VideoX forum archive. And if you want to sink even deeper into nostalgic video technology feelings, you can even browse old VideoX pages. We are already curious what will happen in the next 20 years...
