Sundance has listed a total of 91 projects for its 2024 film festival and Nofilmschool asked which camera was used to shoot 47 of them. Compared to the previous year, there seem to have been quite remarkable shifts in the film tools used here. ;) Canon most used camera brand at Sundance 2024 film competition according to NoFilmschol survey
According to the survey, Canon, which came third last year, has climbed to first place this year, knocking Arri off the throne into second place, followed by Sony in third place, with RED and Blackmagicdesign in fourth and fifth place, just 1 percent behind each other, as the most frequently used cameras at Sundance 2024. Looking at the overall percentages, the cameras are quite close to each other: Canon 22% ARRI 19% Sony 13% RED 10% Blackmagic Design 9% Film 9% Others 16 % Unfortunately, Nofilmschool has not yet broken down the figures further, so it is not clear which models were used in particular.
