At this year's "Student Oscars" awards ceremony, three German short films will also be honored, among others. In the Narrative category, two of three prizes go to students of the HFF Munich, as both the graduation film ALMOST HOME (director: Nils Keller) and the practice film EIGENHEIM (ROOMS) (director: Welf Reinhart) each win a Student Academy Award.

In the Animation category, Jan Gadermann and Sebastian Gadow from Babelsberg Film University receive an award for their film Laika & Nemo.

Which films will be rewarded with gold, silver or bronze, however, remains a secret until the awards ceremony on October 20 in L.A. - either way, the winning entries prevailed against a total of 1,796 submissions from 614 film schools around the world. Not a bad start to a film career.
"Almost Home" tells a coming-of-age conflict - against the backdrop of a pandemic raging on Earth, mother and son remain isolated in a research spaceship longer than they would like. In "Eigenheim," a senior couple faces eviction, but a new home is nowhere in sight. In the stop-motion animation "Laika & Nemo," the life of young diver Nemo changes abruptly when he meets astronaut Laika.
