For Sony Alpha users who prefer the lightest possible camera bag but still prefer to shoot with prime lenses rather than a zoom lens, Samyang is launching two more lenses in the "Prima" series: the AF 16mm F2.8 P FE and the AF 85mm F1.8 P FE. They are characterized by a particularly lightweight design; according to the manufacturer, the AF 85mm F1.8 P FE, at 272 grams, is currently the lightest in its class. They are made from a self-developed, high-strength technical plastic.

Like the AF 35mm F1.4 P FE, which has been available since December, the lenses cover a full-frame image circle. However, they are even more compact. A linear stepping motor drives the autofocus - in contrast to the AF 35mm, where the reduced focus breathing was emphasized, this is not mentioned for the two new lenses. In return, they have an AF/MF switch, which is missing on the AF 35mm.
The 16mm wide-angle lens weighs 207 grams with a length of 70.5 mm, the close focusing distance is 12 cm. With a magnification factor of 0.33, it also offers a semi-macro functionality. The optical construction consists of 8 elements in 7 groups, including 1 aspherical element as well as 1 HR and 3 ED lenses. Flares and ghosting are to be minimized by a special coating. The aperture consists of 7 blades.
The brighter 85mm F1.8 portrait focal length also contains 1 HR and 3 ED lenses in the optical design, with a total of 9 elements in 8 groups. Unlike the wide-angle lens, the aperture here consists of 9 blades. Subjects at a distance of 80 cm can be focused sharply.
The filter diameter of the two new lenses is 62 mm (less than the larger 35mm lens, which is compatible with 67mm filters), weather sealing is available.
The Samyang AF 16mm F2.8 P FE and AF 85mm F1.8 P FE are scheduled to be available from today and will cost 399 euros each.
