In South Korea, Vertical Video fans will be able to watch their clips on TV in upright format from the end of May. The recently introduced 43" Samsung Sero can be rotated by 90 degrees and is supposed to be able to display not only the horizontal picture rectangles in the usual orientation but also "vertically" filmed material seamlessly, i.e. without any scaling and the accompanying black side surfaces. Especially younger people, who are used to filming with their smartphones in an upright position, or above all consume such filmed clips on the net, should be addressed with the device.
Perhaps this is even an attractive function, especially since the television set in the upright position is better suited to small apartments. Why not even use it as a virtual mirror if there's a camera on board? Whether the upright TV concept will be adopted and introduced outside Asia remains to be seen.
