Sony announces a new camera and display plugin for Unreal Engine and a color calibrator as part of its new virtual production tool set. They are designed to improve the entire process of pre-production and color management.
![]() Virtual production with Sony Venice After installing the camera and display plugin, the virtual VENICE allows you to recreate the settings of the VENICE, VENICE 2 and Crystal LED display during productions in Unreal Engine. This allows assets to be created in pre-production, using the color pipeline of the VENICE. The virtual VENICE feature in the Camera and Display plugin can also uniquely simulate the camera&s exposure index and neutral density (ND) filters to mimic shallow depth of field and determine lens choices during pre-production. This plugin also displays a custom moiré message based on the pixel pitch and other specifications of the wall, allowing changes to camera position and movements to be made during pre-production, saving time on set. In addition, the virtual VENICE settings in the Camera and Display plugin can be easily exported and transferred to the VENICE and VENICE 2 cameras on set. ![]() Sony Venice Finally, the plugin also provides moiré reporting during shooting. This is a useful tool for identifying problems that may not be obvious when monitoring on set, but are noticed in post-production. The Color Calibrator, also newly introduced, is a simple and easy-to-use application for Windows 10 that ensures accurate color reproduction when shooting with LED walls and the VENICE. An intuitive interface, it is designed to simplify on-set workflows by matching the look of LED walls - including HDR-capable LED walls - to the desired look of the VENICE. To do this, a test pattern is recorded on the LED wall with the VENICE, after which the color calibrator automatically analyzes the result. A 3D LUT is then created that can be applied to the LED controller, color management tool or Unreal Engine. This calibration process should be made simple and can be done repeatedly. The first tool set for virtual production is expected to be available free of charge in summer 2023. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Virtuelle Produktionen mit Sony Venice: Neues Toolset soll Workflows und Farbmanagement verbessern |
