The
Vitec Group has already expanded its impressive portfolio, which includes well-known brands such as Manfrotto, Sachtler, Vinten, Gitzo, Anton/Bauer, Kata, Teradek, SmallHD, Wooden Camera and Litepanels, to include two new acquisitions: the camera case manufacturer
Lowepro and
Joby, known for flexible mini tripods such as the GorillaPod.
Vitec has acquired the two companies for 10.3 million dollars in cash from Dayman Group. Lowepro and Joby become part of the photography division of Vitec. Although Vitec already owns brands that produce similar products to the two new acquisitions, Vitec is also hoping that the purchase will reduce competition and give it easier access to new markets.
Lowepro has been producing transport bags for cameras for 50 years and is the market leader in this field. Lowepro&s range of products includes shoulder bags, trolley cases, vests and backpacks specially designed for transporting DSLRs and cameras including accessories (objectives, batteries,...), notebooks and, most recently, quadcopters.
Joby has only been in existence since 2006 and is known for its flexible GorillaPod tripods. In the meantime, the product range has been expanded to include additional fastening solutions for DSLRs and smartphones.
