At NAB, Germany-based Proton Camera Innovations presented the broadcast-capable miniature camera Proton Cam, which is barely larger than a toy cube with its 28mm x 28mm housing. It was developed for special requirements in the sports or event sector, for example, where it is intended to enable recordings from unusual perspectives. It has also been spotted in drone setups.
Proton Rain
A weatherproof version of the camera will now be exhibited at the upcoming IBC. The Proton Rain is IP67-certified and therefore suitable for outdoor use, but is only slightly larger (30mm x 30mm).
The Proton camera (and apparently also the Proton Rain) has a 12bit 1/1.8” type sensor and films in max. 1080p60, various color spaces are supported, Rec.709 as well as Rec.2020 and similar. According to the manufacturer, the image signal can be tweaked so that the images can be seamlessly mixed with material from larger broadcast cameras. Small lenses can be changed via an M12/S mount, recording is apparently done externally via 3G-SDI, at least with the Proton Cam, and operation is remote. A stereo microphone and a tally light are integrated.
There are no detailed specifications available online from the manufacturer, and the camera does not appear to be available via the relevant dealer channels, but only on request. More information about the Proton Cam can be found in the following Newsshooter video:
