The cinema year is drawing to a close and, as every year, the question arises as to what the best films of the year were. There are again many lists created with favorite films - but as different as the XXX authors are, so different are the respective top 10 films. We present in the following some of the lists with the best films 2022.
Indiewire, as it does every year, asked a large number of film critics from around the world about their favorite films of 2022. From the 165 responses, Indiewire has compiled a list of 50 Best Films 2022. Each film has a brief justification for its rank and a link to an in-depth film review. At the top is "TÁR" followed by "Aftersun," "The Banshees of Inisherin," "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "The Fabelmans.
Another list with the top films by official film critics has been compiled by Metacritic from several top 10 lists by film critics from many American newspapers and magazines, here "Aftersun" leads ahead of "TÁR", then comes "Top Gun: Maverick", which only appeared at the 9th place on Indiewire, then "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "The Banshees of Inisherin".
Interestingly, the top list of the users of Metacritic is not so different from that of the critics: here, too, "Aftersun" is number 1 - followed by "The Quiet Girl" (which is not in the top 15 of the critics, but is at least represented in the top 10 of some individual film critics - however, the film also opens in theaters only on December 16 - as well as "Avatar: The Way of Water"), "TÁR", "Mr. Bachmann and His Class" and "The Worst Person in the World".
Another well-known list is provided by the British TimeOut Magazine, which presents the 33 best films of 2022, which refreshingly looks quite different, here Paul Thomas Anderson&s "Licorice Pizza" is then first place, followed by "Top Gun: Maverick", "The Northman", "Aftersun" and Pedro Almodóvar&s "Parallel Mothers".
Every critic and viewer has their own list of movie favorites, of course, but often other people&s top 10s like this provide inspiration to watch movies that you had previously missed or even overlooked altogether. If the movie descriptions or trailers have whetted your appetite to watch a particular film in its entirety, you can check a site such as who-streams-it to see if the film in question is currently available to watch online. We&re also looking forward - as we do every year - to the supercut of the best films of 2022 by film critic David Ehrlich, which will hopefully be released in January.
