The recently teased Xiaomi 12S Ultra flagship smartphone has now been officially unveiled (albeit initially only for the Chinese market). "Co-engineered with Leica" is the declared motto and the camera section also stands out accordingly. ![]() Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Co-engineered with Leica The Leica Summicron 1:1.9-4.1 / 13-120 ASPH camera system comprises three camera modules. The 23mm f/1.9 main camera houses the previously communicated 1" sensor (SONY IMX989) with 50.3MP quad-layer pixel array. After pixel binning to 12.5MP, the sensor pixel size here is a full 3.2µm (4-in-1 Superpixel). The sensor also brings Sony&s new ![]()
The ultra-wide 13mm f/2.2 module and the 120mm f/4.1 telephoto camera à la Periscope both feature a SONY 1/2" sensor (IMX586) with 48MP quad-bayer pixel layout (1.6µm pixel size after binning). A HyperOIS image stabilization is supposed to work especially effectively in video mode by driving the motor back to its initial position between each frame readout (in which modes HyperOIS is available is not stated, though). At maximum, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra films in 8K (7680 x 4320) at 24fps, and in 4K (3840 x 2160) also at 60fps. According to Xiaomi, 10-bit HDR video recording in Dolby Vision with Rec.2020 (backwards compatible via HLG) is supported for the first time in Android. The data rate in 4K is max. 80 Mbps (VBR). The slow motion capabilities reach up to 480fps in FullHD, and there is even an extreme high-speed mode with a theoretical 3840fps (!) in the 1280 x 720 resolution, which can only record for 95ms, however, resulting in a slow-motion playback of about 12 seconds. According to the spec sheet, motion detection is also implemented so that this fraction of a second is actually triggered at the decisive moment. Thus, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra has to cope with a lot in terms of computing. In return, it is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor, which is supposed to be faster as well as smaller and more energy-saving than the Gen 8. A completely new system for heat dissipation relies on a kind of capillary network, which is modeled after the plant kingdom. Condensing coolant can always be directed to where it&s needed, it seems, which is said to be about twice as efficient as conventional VC (vapor chamber) systems. ![]() Xiaomi 12S Ultra The 2K 6.73" AMOLED display offers a peak brightness of 1500 nits, P3 color gamut and 1-120Hz AdaptiveSync Pro. The 4,860 mAh battery is designed for fast charging. By the way, the device weighs 225g with a thickness of about 9mm. On offer, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra will come with 8 or 12GB of RAM and 256 or 512GB of storage for prices ranging from 5999 to 6999 yuan, which is equivalent to 870-1015 euros. It is not known when the smartphone will be released in this country and at what price. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Xiaomi 12S Ultra: Leica-Kamera mit 1" Sensor und 10bit HDR-Aufnahme in Dolby Vision |
