Xiaomi has updated its heavily camera-oriented flagship smartphone - the quad camera, which is built in collaboration with Leica, is brighter thanks to new lenses and a new 1" image sensor. However, the new sensor does not come from OmniVision (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Ein-Zoll-Sensor-Konkurrenz-zum-Sony-LYTIA-900---Le-18339.html as a leak predicted in January), but instead uses the LYT-900 from Sony. ![]() It offers 3.2µm 4-in-1 superpixels and, according to Xiaomi, should achieve a high dynamic range of 14EV in conjunction with Dual Native ISO Fusion Max. Its power consumption is also said to be greatly reduced, allegedly by up to 43% compared to its predecessor. In addition, Xiaomi has given the smartphone a completely new liquid cooling system, which is specifically designed to keep the heat generated by the camera in check.
Like its predecessor, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra films in a maximum of 8K at 30p. In 4K, the frame rates reach up to 120fps. There is a new movie mode, MasterCinema, which is supposed to enable professional features such as a 2.39:1 aspect ratio or a 180° shutter. The ability to record HDR videos in 10-bit Rec.2020 is advertised as a new feature, but to our knowledge this color mode was already supported by the 13 Ultra. ![]() A Director mode offers a more professional user interface with advanced parameter controls and log format recording for flexible post-processing. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra can also be used as an external monitor with other Xiaomi devices such as the new Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. Xiaomi advertises the cinematic qualities with the following short film, which was shot with the smartphone: More powerful Leica Quad camera The prominent camera section of the smartphone has also been revised. The Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX 1:1.63-2.5/12-120 ASPH "lens" - consisting of four modules - supports a Kb-equivalent focal length range of 12-120mm in combination. The main camera with its 1" sensor offers a continuously adjustable aperture from f/1.63 to f/4.0. With the exception of the 12mm ultra-wide-angle camera, the modules have optical image stabilization. Macro capabilities are also available: ![]() Leica 23mm / main camera LYT-900 / 50MP / 3.2µm Superpixel 14EV dynamic range ƒ/1.63-ƒ/4.0 8P lens Optical image stabilization Leica 75mm / telephoto camera IMX858 / 50MP ƒ/1,8 6P Lens Optical image stabilization 10cm macro photography Leica 12mm / ultra wide angle IMX858 / 50MP 122° field of view (FOV) ƒ/1,8 7P lens 5cm macro photography Leica 120mm / Periscope IMX858 / 50MP ƒ/2,5 Optical image stabilization 30cm macro photography As with version 13, there is an optional Photography Kit, which offers a special grip as well as extended functions. The kit includes a two-stage shutter release, a zoom lever, a customizable video recording button and an additional user-defined setting wheel. The camera kit also functions as an external charging battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh. ![]() The Xiaomi 14 Ultra has also been upgraded with a 4-microphone array. Thanks to a three-dimensional microphone array with surround sound, audio can be better captured. Directional audio recording and audio "zoom" is also supported. The high computing power of 60 TOPS should not only enable the calculation of large models for computer-aided photography, but also an extremely high throughput for the entire imaging system. AI algorithms should be able to optimize the results in several areas, such as combining up to 8 RAW images into a dynamic range of up to 16EV (FusionLM), controlling the brightness values in an image for fewer artefacts (ToneLM), adjusting the colour information of the pixels (ColorLM) or retouching portraits (PortraitLM). Speaking of performance: the Xiaomi 14 Ultra with 5000mAh battery relies on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform and has 16GB LPDDR5X 8533Mbit/s RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. The WQHD+ 6.73" AMOLED display with 522ppi is said to have a peak brightness of 3000cd/m². The latest USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 standard is supported. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra will be available in Germany from March 19 for €1,499.90. ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: Xiaomi 14 Ultra - 1" Smartphone-Kamera mit neuem MasterCinema-Modus |
