Xiaomi&s Ultra flagship smartphones have boasted impressively equipped camera sections developed in collaboration with Leica for years – the newly presented Xiaomi 15 Ultra is no exception, but it offers few new capabilities for photo and video enthusiasts. Instead, a feature of its predecessor has even been dropped: the variable aperture of the main camera, which was introduced with the 13 Ultra.

Quad-camera, 10-bit Log and ... ACES
As before, the main camera uses a 1-inch sensor (Sony&s LYT-900) paired with a 23mm ƒ/1.63 lens consisting of Leica Summilux lenses, including an 8P aspherical high-transmission lens and dual anti-reflective coating (AR). (All focal lengths are KB-equivalent.)
Leica Quad-Camera
The other modules of the quad-camera have minor specification changes – the 75mm telephoto lens has become a 70mm floating telephoto lens, while the focal length of the periscope-based ultra-telephoto lens decreases from 120mm to 100mm. However, the sensor resolution increases from 50MP to 200MP, allowing for 2.24μm Superpixels. The sensor is of the 1/1.4" type; according to the manufacturer, it captures significantly more light than before.
The new periscope telephoto camera
Except for the ultra-wide-angle camera, all modules of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra offer optical image stabilization. The 70mm telephoto module still allows macro shots from 10cm distance.
Filming is (unchanged) at a maximum of 8K 30p; 4K videos can be recorded in slow motion at 120fps by both the main and periscope telephoto cameras. The new Xiaomi 15 Ultra also supports Ultra Dolby Vision video recordings in 4K at 60fps and 10-bit Log video recordings across all focal lengths. As the first Android smartphone, it also supports the ACES color standard (in our opinion, newly added). (This basic article explains what the ACES standard is.)

A 4-microphone array provides immersive audio recordings, with modes for omnidirectional, front, rear, and trajectory recordings available.
Further Equipment
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra features a 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 1440 and a pixel density of 522 ppi; the maximum brightness is said to be 3200 nits.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is powered by the latest Xiaomi HyperOS 2 operating system and is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform with a 3nm manufacturing process and an Oryon CPU. Compared to the previous generation, CPU performance is said to be increased by 45 percent and energy consumption reduced by 52 percent. In addition, Xiaomi claims a 44 percent increase in GPU performance and a 46 percent reduction in power consumption.
The latest LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage technology are integrated.
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra is available now in two storage versions:
- The 16 GB + 512 GB variant is available for 1,499.90 Euros (RRP). - The 16 GB + 1 TB variant is available for 1,699.90 Euros (RRP).
