Z CAM E2-S6 - Super35 6K Resolution Sensor for 4000 Dollars //NAB 2019

Z CAM now has a camera development speed similar to that of Blackmagic. Just recently a small 4K-MFT E2C was introduced was released and the Chinese are already announcing another Cinema Camera for autumn. This time even with an official 6K Super35 sensor.

At full sensor resolution (6244 x 4168 Sensel) a maximum of 30 fps are possible. At 6124 x 3240, up to 48 fps should already be possible. Cinemascope 6K (6124 x 2560) should finally enable up to 60 fps. 4K resolutions can be generated in a cropped sensor section or by downsampling. However, the frame rate is limited to 60 fps.

Recording is done with 10 bits in H.264 (4:2:2) or H.265 4:2:0 with maximum 300 Mbps on a CFast card. ProRES is still dependent on Apple licensing. Even RAW with 12 or 14 bit should be possible, but no format is mentioned yet. As color profiles Rec.709, Z-Log2, FLAT and HLG are integrated.

The camera with EF or PL mount will be shipped from October for 3999 dollars. Although a URSA Mini Pro G2 offers more slow-motion capabilities and significantly better features in this price region, the Z CAM E2-S6 scores above all with its compact dimensions: Without optics, the camera should only measure approx. 9 x 9 x 10 cm. Whether 6K is an advantage or disadvantage with this sensor size has yet to be proven...
