Zeiss has released a software update with additional pre-calibrated lens templates for its CinCraft Scenario camera tracking system. According to the manufacturer, the system could previously only be used for productions working with Zeiss and Arri/Zeiss lenses - with software release 2.0, tracking is now also possible when using selected cine and broadcast lenses from other lens brands.

ZEISS CinCraft Scenario
templates are now available for over 90 lenses from more than 10 lens series, including broadcast zooms from Canon and Fujifilm (see table). Thanks to the pre-calibrated lens properties, the recording of lens distortion can be skipped. With the new Lens Template Finetuner, only the generic lens templates need to be adjusted with the specific real properties of the lenses used in the respective project.
A software wizard guides you step by step through the finetuning process. This is intended to eliminate the complexity often associated with lens calibration and make the system ready for use more quickly. Customized templates can then be saved. In addition, CinCraft Scenario 2.0 makes it possible to load and tune lens calibrations that were previously created with Ncam Reality.
CinCraft Scenario was launched last year and uses a hybrid tracking technology that detects features of the environment, such as object edges, in addition to the industry-standard, specially placed reflective markers. Digital markers on LED walls, which are invisible to the main camera, are also recognized.
With CinCraft Export 1.0, Zeiss has also released a stand-alone software for Windows PCs that can export the recorded tracking data in the industry-standard FBX file format as well as lens distortion in the form of OpenEXR STMaps. This makes it easy to reuse the live tracking data for post-production applications such as Post-Vis.
The ZEISS CinCraft Scenario Release 2.0 with templates for selected cine lenses from ARRI, Cooke, Angenieux, Leitz and Fujinon and broadcast lenses from Canon and Fujinon as well as the Lens Template Finetuner is now available as an update directly in CinCraft Scenario. All available lens templates will be available free of charge in the software after the update; the number of supported lenses will also be gradually expanded in the coming months.
