As with the introduction of its Supreme Prime Radiance series, Zeiss uses the Polish festival for camera art Camerimage to present new lenses - this time cine zooms are added to the Radiance series.
ZEISS Supreme Zoom Radiance
The three specially developed T2.9 high-end cine zooms 15-30 mm, 28-80 mm and 70-200 mm are equipped with the same T* blue lens coating as the Supreme Radiance primes and offer a correspondingly similar look with uniform flares and warmer color rendition compared to standard coated lenses. They are designed to combine a smooth sharpness with an aesthetic focus fall-off, a very shallow depth of field and an elegant bokeh.
According to Zeiss, the T* blue coating of the Supreme Zoom Radiance makes it possible to create artistic flares in a controlled and reproducible manner when focused light is directed into the lens barrel. When zooming, the shape of the Radiance flares is said to change in a unique way.
The Supreme Zoom Radiance offer uniform and standardized positions for aperture, focus and zoom rings as well as a front diameter of 114mm to ensure easy switching between Supreme Prime and Zoom lenses. Zeiss specifies the maximum weight of the new optics at 3.18 kg.
These lenses are also equipped with ZEISS eXtended Data technology. In addition to the standard metadata provided via the Cooke /i technology protocol, they also provide image-by-image data on vignetting and distortion. Furthermore, the lenses are integrated into the ZEISS CinCraft ecosystem and are available in the “Zeiss Supreme Lenses” Virtual Lens Package (VLP), which is supplied free of charge with the CinCraft Scenario camera tracking system. When using it, users can skip the tedious lens calibration process when shooting with the Radiance Zooms.
The Zeiss Supreme Zoom Radiance lenses are available to order now, with delivery planned from April 2025. The three lenses - 15-30 mm T2.9, 28-80 mm T2.9 and 70-200 mm T2.9 - are available as a set or individually.
Meanwhile, the Zeiss Supreme Radiance series now comprises eleven fixed focal lengths (18 mm, 21 mm, 25 mm, 29 mm, 35 mm, 40 mm, 50 mm, 65 mm, 85 mm, 100 mm, 135 mm), all with a T1.5 lens speed.
