Zhiyun Crane-M2 S: one-hand gimbal with its own light for compact cameras and smartphones

The Chinese manufacturer Zhiyun has introduced a new model of its one-handed gimbal series. Weighing just 549 grams, the Zhiyun Crane-M2 S is the successor to the Crane-M2 launched just under 2 years ago and, like the latter, can stabilize compact mirrorless cameras as well as action cams and smartphones with a payload of up to one kilogram.

A special feature of the Zhiyun Crane-M2 S is the light integrated into the gimbal (as already on the

Crane M3) with a color temperature of 5500K and a peak luminosity of 1,000 lumens, which can be adjusted in 5 steps and has 5 color filters.

Also like the Crane M3, the new M2 S gimbal features Zhiyun&s new Quick Release System 4.0, which allows for easy changing of cameras in use via a small quick release plate for all popular camera models - the universal 2-in-1 Transmount Quick Release plate conveniently has extra access for quick battery changes without having to remove the camera from the gimbal.

Gimbal Modes and Controls

Smart gimbal modes now include Pan Follow (PF - pan mode), Follow (F - pan-tilt mode) and Lock (L - lock mode), as well as a Full Range POV mode that allows synchronous movement on all three axes, a Vortex mode to create 360-degree barrel shots in all directions, a Go mode for sports and motion that allows quick panning or tilting to capture fast-moving subjects such as a soccer player or a flying bird, and a Selfie mode that allows the camera to quickly rotate 180 degrees.

A 0.66" OLED touchscreen is integrated into the gimbal, which can be used to make adjustments and display status. A small joystick and two control buttons can be used to navigate the settings menus and control shooting.

Power via USB-C - also for camera

The Crane M2 S can be charged via its USB-C port using PD Fast Charge protocol in a 1 hour and 41 minutes - a full charge is enough for up to 10 hours of action. The camera can be powered (5V 1A) via the gimbal&s USB Type-C port for extended shooting and, if it is a

compatible camera system, it can also be controlled. The camera can also be addressed via WLAN or Bluetooth using the ZY PLAY app.

The Zhiyun Crane-M2 S will start shipping in mid-March at a price of around 300 euros or around 380 euros in m combo package including smartphone mount and a TransMount EasyGo backpack.
