Japanese audio specialist Zoom has introduced the new UAC-232 USB Audio Converter, the first dedicated 32-bit float audio interface. The Zoom UAC-232 features a pair of XLR/TRS combo inputs on the front panel for microphone or line signals along with two mic preamps, the same ones used in Zoom&s professional F-Series recorders. For recording with condenser microphones, +48V phantom power is also supported, which can be activated separately for each channel by a dedicated switch. ![]() Zoom UAC-232 USB Audio Converter
Since the 32-bit floating-point A-D conversion offers a very wide dynamic range, Zoom has dispensed with the classic gain controls for leveling and therefore still delivers overload-free and low-noise recordings. The input signal is converted into a digital signal by dual A-D converters, which can be output to a computer via the USB-C port using USB 3.0. A second USB-C port is used to connect a dedicated USB power supply when a host computer such as cannot provide enough power via the USB bus for the Zoom UAC-232. Using the "Direct Monitor" button, the input signal is applied directly to the headphones and routed in parallel to a DAW or streaming software. Via Mix Control, the volume and panning can be adjusted for the direct monitor feed. Recording can be monitored either via headphones using the balanced TRS jack output, or via studio speakers using the two TRS outputs with volume controls. The MIDI inputs/outputs allow the connection of external MIDI devices such as drum computers, synths and keyboards. ![]() Zoom UAC-232 USB Audio Converter Configuration of Zoom UAC-232&s input/output routing and loopback function, as well as control of input and monitoring levels, is done via the UAC-232 Mix Control app (Windows, macOS, iOS). Music mode can also be selected to set up routing to DAW software, or streaming mode can be used to combine all inputs into a single signal for streaming software. The Zoom UAC-232 costs around 273 euros and is available now. Bild zur Newsmeldung:
