Zoom is launching its latest cell phone recorder as a versatile all-rounder. The compact H1 XLR does not come with its own microphone, but offers two lockable XLR/TRS combo inputs and a 3.5 mm stereo jack input. This makes it possible to connect larger, professional microphones as well as clip-on camera microphones and lavalier microphones for various recording scenarios. The +4dBu line signal can also be used to pick up the sum outputs of mixers and the like at live events.
Zoom H1 XLR
As with the most recently released Zoom recorders (www.slashcam.de/news/single/Zoom-stellt-32-Bit-Float-Handy-Recorder-H1--H4-und-18375.html), 32-bit float technology is integrated so that no leveling is required - all details are retained in both quiet and loud recordings.
The preamps of the H1 XLR are said to provide clear audio quality with an EIN value of -120 dB and sampling rates of up to 96 kHz.
The H1 XLR can be mounted on camera rigs to record shotgun or wireless microphones with better audio quality and has a 3.5 mm headphone output (alternatively for direct connection to a camera). Phantom power can be output for recording with condenser microphones and lavaliers can be fed with plug-in power.
It can also be used for smartphone recordings via USB-C port.
Connected to a PC, Mac or iOS or Android device, the H1 XLR can be used as an audio interface and the material can be recorded to the SD card at the same time.
The recorder measures 107 mm × 62.1 mm × 39.3 mm and weighs 92g. It is equipped with a small OLED display for operation, it also shows a real-time waveform display of the audio material during recording. A speaker is also on board.
A switch can be used to toggle between microphone and line level. The H1 XLR can record both stereo and mono files, depending on the application. An integrated mixer allows the audio volume to be adjusted for each track.
The H1 XLR supports SDXC cards with up to 1 TB and is powered by two type AA batteries or via its USB-C port. You can choose between bus power or external USB battery packs as a source.
