American startup iodyne has unveiled an extremely fast mobile storage system with a capacity of 12-24 TB for all Thunderbolt-equipped computers (Apple only for now), which is the fastest Thunderbolt 3 transportable storage system on the market with a maximum speed of up to 5 GB/s (according to the manufacturer). ![]() iodyne Pro Data
The high data throughput is achieved through parallelization: a full dozen M.2 NVMe SSDs guarantee high storage speed, and the transfer speed that is also needed is achieved by also transferring in parallel using several of the eight Thunderbolt 3 ports. To our knowledge, the iodyne system is the first external storage solution to use multiple Thunderbolt ports in such a bundled fashion. As you can see in the clip above, the iodyne Pro Data is primarily aimed at creatives in the field of video editing, because in this area, particularly large amounts of data accumulate when working with high-resolution 4/6/8K (RAW) video material on the film set, which also needs to be accessed quickly when working with it. ![]() iodyne Pro Data In total, the iodyne Pro Data system has 8 Thunderbolt 3 ports: four upstream and four downstream. This allows up to 6 Pro Data systems with a total capacity of up to 144 TB (or 576 TB when using 8 TB NVMe SSDs) to be daisy-chained. Alternatively, multiple computers can be connected for collaborative work, or other devices such as monitors. Up to four computers can be connected to the iodyne Pro Data simultaneously via Thunderbolt 3 - the SSD storage space can be divided into storage pools for different users, each of which can be configured with their own passwords, encryption keys, different RAID levels and file system formats. The NVMe SSDs are easily replaceable in case of problems (and also upgradeable to models with an even higher capacity). ![]() iodyne Pro Data The 12 (either 1 or 2 TB) heatsink-equipped NVMe SSDs in M.2 format can be configured either as RAID 0 for maximum speed and storage (with 12 TB or 24 TB capacity, respectively) or as RAID 6 for maximum security (in which case 10 TB or 20 TB, respectively, are available). Data can also be encrypted using AES-XTS-256. The reliability of the system or the Total Bytes Written (TBW) value is 6,000 TB or 8,000 TB. At 39.1 cm × 25.4 cm × 3.1 cm, the iodyne Pro Data&s 3.3 kg case is about the size of a notebook, only about twice as thick. ![]() iodyne Pro Data The iodyne Pro Data is available now ![]() ![]() deutsche Version dieser Seite: iodyne Pro Data: 24 TB NVMe SSD-Speichersystem mit 5 GB/s per 8 x Thunderbolt 3 |
