Hello zäme!
I want my approximately 50 full DV tapes and I like to reuse the opportunity to incorporate all the movies with Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and on an external HD to archive.
After that I could begin to transfer the old content on the DV tape with something new to .. The security of the data on the HD is fine, because I can still make a backup copy for a friend who is computer scientist and a professional can secure this data.
But I wonder now is whether the. Avi files that are created the program from the DV shooting really qualitatively identical with the footage of the DV, that is, if I could export a movie again later on the HD of a tape and the tape would be then identical with the original.
Can anyone of you give me this information?

the cost per gigabyte of (Mini) DV tape or still significantly lower than with current Kapazität-/price-günstigsten hard disks.
What sense does it because replacing the cheapest storage medium to expensive to? Just to re-use the cheap media can?

Dario The transfer from tape to PC via Firewire is a communication one to one. The same applies to restitution from the PC onto tape. The prerequisite is that your hardware / software in order / is appropriate, therefore, can carry the loss of data. Otherwise you "dropped frames risking" the loss of individual images. In a recent PC (up to three years old) with the firewire should be no problem. The software will show you ggf dropped frames.
As Mark already wrote, the storage on tape but actually is an economic and MUs synonymous safer. In addition, you have quick access to eun single tape.

Furthermore, yes YOU need some synonymous s.Plattenplatz several tapes to back up. Per 60 minutes I would set times about 15 GB, 525 GB with 50 bands so as disk space.
Less Plate Square is just a different codec. See:
