Sonnet has introduced the compact single-slot Thunderbolt 3 card reader for SxS PRO X+ media, which offers the maximum supported read speed of each. SxS PRO+ is the latest and fastest version of the SxS flash memory standard, which is compliant with the ExpressCard standard. They were developed by Sony specifically as an onboard recording medium for its cameras and are used in Sony&s camcorders and professional video cameras, such as the Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta cameras, the Sony PMW-F5 and the Sony Venice.
SxS PRO X+ cards guarantee a minimum recording speed of 1.3 Gbps and an interface with a theoretical maximum speed of 8 Gbps (1 GB/s). They feature a PCIe 3.0 interface, which has been used to increase read speeds to nearly three times those of last-generation cards (PCIe 2.0).

However, a prerequisite for the maximum transfer speed is a reader that also uses PCIe 3.0, such as the Sonnet SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 single-slot card reader. It thus achieves the maximum SxS PRO X ingest speed of up to 1,250 MB/s. All previous generation SxS cards are also supported at their maximum rated speed. Both XQD and SD memory cards can be read in addition to SxS cards via (separately available) XQD and SD card adapters.
The Sonnet SxS PRO X Thunderbolt 3 single-slot card reader connects to all Mac and Windows computers with a Thunderbolt 3 port. In addition to the 0.5 meter Thunderbolt 3 cable, Sonnet also supplies a specially designed retaining clip that prevents accidental disconnection of the cable from the reader. The clip slides over one end of the cable and secures the connector by turning a screw. When the cable is not plugged in, the special attachment keeps the clip on the cable and prevents it from being lost.
