Nikon presents a new, universally applicable superzoom lens. The NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR covers a large focal length range of 28-400mm and offers a maximum aperture of f/4 at 28mm in the wide-angle range up to f/8 at 400mm in the super-telephoto range.

The 14.2x zoom offers compact proportions and a weight of only 725g. According to Nikon, the built-in optical image stabilizer counteracts camera shake with 5.0 f-stops; the VR advantage increases to 5.5 f-stops when the lens is used on a Nikon Z camera with Synchro VR. A fast and "quiet" stepper motor from Nikon is used for autofocus (internal focusing).
The optical design consists of 21 lenses in 15 groups (with 4 ED glass lenses and 3 aspherical lenses). Thanks to close focusing distances of 0.2m at 28mm and 1.2m at 400mm, the superzoom lens is also suitable for close-up photography. The maximum magnification is 1:2.8.
The aperture consists of 9 blades. An existing, noiseless adjustment ring can be individually adjusted and a zoom lock switch prevents the lens from accidentally extending.
The NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is expected to be available in stores at the end of March 2024 at a recommended retail price of EUR 1,549.00.
