Samsung has already started mass production of the successor of the 2.5" 15 TB SSD PM1633a, which was introduced in March 2016 and has a capacity twice as large, making it the current record holder. The 30 TB SSD PM1643 is intended for use in servers and therefore has a 12Gb/s SAS interface that achieves a sequential read speed of 2,100 MB/sec and a write speed of 1,700 MB/sec and 400,000 random IOPS (reading) and 50,000 IOPS (write) respectively.
The 2.5-inch SSD consists of 32 1TB V-NAND packages (each consisting of 16 layers of 512GBit 3-bit V-NAND) - 40 GB DRAM are used as cache. The endurance is 60 PByte - Samsung gives a 5-year warranty, whereby the SSD can be fully described 1 time a day. Later this year, lower-capacity versions of the PM1643 (15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB and 800GB) will also be launched. Prices have not yet been mentioned - for your orientation: the predecessor model with 15.36 TB currently costs around 7,800 Euro.
