Samyang completes its V-AF lens series for motion picture photography with a 20mm ultra-wide-angle lens and a 1.7x anamorphic MF adapter. With the addition of the 20mm lens to the existing 24mm, 35mm, 45mm, 75mm T1.9 and 100mm T2.3 focal lengths, the series now offers a total of six lenses from ultra-wide angle to telephoto. ;) Samyang V-AF 20mm T1.9 FE The 20mm lens retains the compact size and low weight of the V-AF series. According to Samyang, all lenses are designed for resolutions up to 8K and are said to offer standardized colour characteristics. A unique feature are the two tally lamps on the front and side of the lenses, which indicate the camera&s shooting status.
;) The cine fixed focal lengths of the Samyang V-AF series are developed for full-frame format and are compatible with Sony E-mount. Electronic front contacts enable communication with accessories such as the newly introduced adapter, and the autofocus is said to operate smoothly and precisely. The angle of rotation of the focus is 300°. However, the optics are not free of focus breathing; Samyang specifies values between 0.7% (20mm) and 13% (100mm). With their uniform form factor and low weight - the 20mm weighs 300g - the lenses are also recommended for gimbal/drone photography. Anamorphic MF adapter (1.7x) The new 1.7x anamorphic MF adapter can be easily attached to Samyang&s V-AF lenses and is designed to reproduce the characteristic features of anamorphic lenses. It allows shooting in cinematic widescreen - an aspect ratio of 2.55:1 is created after rectification - whereby the electronic contacts between the lens and the adapter are intended to make it easier to control the optimum focus position (focusing is performed on the adapter). ;) The adapter is compatible with the 35mm, 45mm, 75mm and 100mm lenses of the V-AF series in full-frame, while the 24mm lens can be used with the APS-C and Super 35 modes. As the lenses themselves offer a T1.9, Samyang claims that this solution is currently the fastest solution on the market (as of today). When using the adapter, the V-AF lenses lose some of their portability, as it weighs 905g. ;) Prices and availability The Samyang V-AF 20mm T1.9 FE costs 649 euros, the price of the anamorphic MF adapter is 999 euros.
