Sony has announced prices and release date for the approximately one month of announced 4K UltraHD Bravia AF9 and ZF9 series TVs with special automatic color calibration mode for Netflix.
The OLED models BRAVIA KD-65AF9 (65"/164 cm) and BRAVIA KD-55AF9 (55"/139 cm) will cost around 4,000 Euro and 3,000 Euro respectively, the two LCD models BRAVIA TV KD-75ZF9 (75") and BRAVIA TV KD-65ZF9 (65") 5,000 Euro and 3,000 Euro respectively - the new premium models will be available from October. HDR is supported in the form of HDR10, HLG and DolbyVision.
The new Netflix Calibrated Mode was developed by colour experts from Sony and Netflix together and achieves high colour fidelity by calibrating Sony televisions in the same colour as the production monitors in Netflix post-production. This is to ensure that Netflix films are shown in exactly the same colour on the television set as intended by the creators.
To this end, Netflix sends metadata in addition to image data, which allows televisions to dynamically adjust colours, contrast and moving image reproduction to the respective content. All content is supported by Netflix - including 4K and HDR content. For the time being, Netflix Calibrated mode will only be available for the new top models.
