relatively easy to handle for sowas is WinFF (winff.org, I think),
verwwendet for the MPG2 files ffmpeg as encoder and works fairly quickly. you should capture a little bit, but the doc has only a few synonymous sites, the forum is straightforward.

You could film synonymous to NTSC format, ie 720 × 480 pixels. The frame rate remains unchanged, thereby eliminating any risk that the scenes after bucking.
Here, virtually every DVD player NTSC DVDs play and when the connected television is not too old, are synonymous, no other problems to be expected.
Just experiment!
